tanding in the middle of a crosswalk, caught between the lines on the asphalt and the incessant coming and goings, an overriding feeling wavering somewhere between fullness and emptiness overwhelms me. Where is everyone running to? After what? With what aim? Is there any place left for free will? CROSSWALKS, one of those temporal spaces where we feel safe, where we “follow the lines”, where we obey, is portrayed as a fragmented reality. By playing with frames and playing with light Sophie Mabille transforms the asphalt into a playground teeming with life, as well as an abstract creation animated by games of shadows and lights. Here, the road is a graphic prop, which the artist, treating matter with matter, accentuates by adding materials like resin and acrylic…
Positionnée au milieu d’un carrefour, happée par les marquages du bitume et le va-et-vient incessant, une forte sensation alternée de vide et de plein m’envahit. Où court chacun ? Après quoi ? Avec quelle énergie ? Quelle place reste-t-il au libre arbitre ? Les CROSSWALKS, tels des espaces-temps où l’on se sent en sécurité, où l’on « trace », où l’on obéit, deviennent ici une réalité fragmentée. Par le jeu du cadrage combiné au jeu de lumières, le bitume devient un terrain de jeu imprégné de vie et une création abstraite animée de jeux d’ombres et de lumières. Ici la rue est un support graphique où il s’agit de rentrer dans la matière par la matière en y ajoutant résine, acrylique…
