BUILDINGS

The series BUILDINGS is intimately linked to the urban culture of our era. It questions our mania for conquering and building. Each one of the thirty-five works in the series becomes here another element in our race toward the sky.
Turning its back on the codes of architectural photography (buildings centrally framed; straight, eye-level shots), BUILDINGS offers a vision that escapes from reality. The fragmentation of the subject, the use of low-angle shots and repetition creates a dynamic that echoes the frenetic rhythm of urbanisation and makes us question our perceptions about our immediate environment: sky scrapers as symbols of globalisation.
Through the act of deconstructing, when shooting the images, then reconstructing, back in the studio, the artist was able to create abstract and graphic compositions. The blue sky behind the buildings that gradually, throughout the series, becomes more and more overcast until it is entirely white, reminds us of the symbolic value of clouds objects onto which we project our own images.
Looking at BUILDINGS, the viewer finds himself caught in an ambiguous terrain, somewhere between the illusions of a dream-like world and the reality of our lust for power.

BUILDINGS
